Ambience is a conceptual medical device designed to support people living with hyperacusis, a condition that causes elevated sensitivity to everyday sounds and can result in discomfort or pain. Using soft hues of light, it helps users communicate their level of discomfort to those around them. The device is also intended to support Cognitive Behavioral Therapy by making discomfort visible during controlled stages of sound exposure.

As noise rises beyond the user’s tolerance level, the device emits a red glow, making discomfort visible to those nearby. When sound levels return to a more comfortable range, the light shifts to green, indicating that the environment has become easier to tolerate.
